Art group 18 Apples

Art group 18 Apples was formed in 2014 in Moscow, Russia, by science artist Ippolit
Markelov, molecular biologist Lucy Odzhomoko, and programmer -=KRA_RED=- . They
rethink the latest scientific achievements from the point of science art. At the present
moment the group explores problems of trans- and intraspecies communication. Artists
apply methods of bioengineering in the context of biohacking. Participated in the
following exhibitions: Sub observationem (MMOMA, Moscow, 2015), the Polytech
festival of science, art and technology (Moscow, 2015), Manifesta 10 (Russia, 2014),
Museum of Everything (Garage Museum of Contemporary Art, Moscow, 2014).

ZIP Group was created in 2009 in Krasnodar, Russia, by artists: Eldar Ganeev, Evgeny Rimkevich, Stepan Subbotin and Vasily Subbotin – founders of the Krasnodar Institute of Contemporary Art (KICA).

Christina Kubisch — composer and sound artist. Composes electronic and acoustic music. Works with sound installations, and sound sculptures, with ultraviolet light and performance. Lives and works in Hoppegarten, Germany.

Urban Fauna Laboratory

Urban Fauna Laboratory was formed by artists Alexey Buldakov and Anastasia Potemkina in 2011 in Moscow, Russia, as a multidisciplinary platform for exploration of symbiotic relationships and their associated adaptations in the urban environment.

Aleksandr Medvedkin

Aleksandr Medvedkin — a Soviet Russian film director and screenwriter. He developed his unique cinematic style blending avant-garde technique, political satire, and Stalinist propaganda drawing inspiration from Russian folklore and the American silent comedies.

The Medvedkin Group

The Medvedkin Group was formed in 1967 in Besançon (France) by a group of workers the Rhodiaceta textile factory and French filmmakers, Chris Marker and Jean-Luc Godard, among others. The group was named in the honor of the Soviet filmmaker Aleksandr Medvedkin.

Kirill Savchenkov

Kirill Savchenkov – artist, works in photography, video, objects, texts, installation, and performance. He explores the notion of memory, how environment influences experience and human psychology, the relationship between social space and construction of identity and knowledge in marginal communities and subcultures. Lives and works in Moscow.

Moises Saman — documentary photographer, member of Magnum Photos. Lives and works in Tokyo, Japan. Saman is best known for his photographs from the wars in Iraq: the Gulf War (1990-1991), the Iraq War (2003-2011), and the Iraqi Civil War (2014-2016).

Slavs and Tatars

Slavs and Tatars – an international collective of artists, designers, and writers, founded in 2005 and devoted to an area east of the former Berlin Wall and west of the Great Wall of China known as Eurasia.

Tipatzeha project

Tipatzeha project was founded in 2014 in Moscow, Russia, by four students of the British Higher School of Art & Design (BA Illustration): Kristina Kolesnikova, Sveta Mullari, Nina Stadnik and Lena Chetvernik.

Tromarama – artist collective, formed in 2006 in Bandung, Indonesia. Participants: Febie Babyrose, Herbert Hans Maruli A., Ruddy Hatumena . The collective experiments with digital imaging technology and is best known for their animations.

Antonina Baever — artist, works with video and photography. Works and lives in Moscow.

Harun Farocki (1944, Novy Jičín, Czech Republic – 2014, Berlin, Germany) – film director, screenwriter and media artist. He made over 90 films, the vast majority of them short experimental documentaries.

Carla Filipe – artist. Although Filipe works directly with space, her most familiar terrain is drawing which she mixes together with writing. Lives and works in Porto, Portugal.

Susan Schuppli — artist-researcher and writer. She holds a PhD in Cultural Studies & Research Architecture (Goldsmiths, University of London, 2009) and is Senior Lecturer and Deputy Director of the Centre for Research Architecture at Goldsmiths, University of London. In her projects she uses media artifacts – photographs, film, video, and audio transmissions – for examining material evidence from war and conflict to environmental disasters. Basel Abbas and Ruanne Abou-Rahme — artists, live and work between Ramallah, Palestine, and New York, USA. Work together across a range of media like sound, image, text, multimedia installations and performance practices.

Lumière Brothers

Lumière Brothers: Auguste Marie Louis Nicolas and Louis Jean were among the first filmmakers. They patented an improved cinematograph, which allowed simultaneous viewing by multiple parties.

Jenny Holzer – conceptualist artist, works with text and light installations. Lives and works in New York, USA.

Yvonne Rainer — dancer, choreographer, and filmmaker. Lives and works in New York, USA. Her work has been foundational across multiple disciplines and movements: dance, cinema, feminism, minimalism, conceptual art, and postmodernism.

Kurt Schwitters — German artist. Schwitters worked in several genres and media, including Dadaism, Constructivism, Surrealism, poetry, sound, painting, sculpture, graphic design, typography, and installation art.

Oraib Toukan and Ala Younis

Oraib Toukan and Ala Younis. Oraib Toukan works in photography, video, and installation, often bringing public interventions into her practice. Ala Younis is a research-based artist and curator. Lives and works in Amman (Jordan). Produces installations, video and publishing projects.

Otto Neurath — philosopher, sociologist, political economist, one of the founders and leading figures of the Vienna Circle.

Pedro Neves Marques

Pedro Neves Marques – visual artist and writer. In 2010 received MA in Art and Politics at Goldsmiths, University of London (UK), in 2007 graduated from the Department of Fine Arts, University of Lisbon.

Aperto project was founded in 2015 in St. Petersburg, Russia, by a young Russian curator Elena Yushina. The Project consists of research platform, institutional library, reading rooms in St. Petersburg and Berlin, video journal and an international cultural newspaper in Russian and in English.

Robert Morris — sculptor, conceptual artist and writer. Lives and works in New York, US.

Forensic Oceanography

Working together since 2011, Charles Heller and Lorenzo Pezzani co-founded the WatchTheMed Platform and have been working on Forensic Oceanography, a project that critically investigates the militarized border regime and the politics of migration in the Mediterranean Sea. Their collaborative work has been exhibited internationally and has been published in several edited volumes as well as in the journals Cultural Studies, Postcolonial Studies, and in the Revue Européenne des Migrations Internationales.

Rudy Decelière

Rudy Decelière – sound artist. Rudy Decelière explores the capabilities of sound through installations, working both indoors and in open space.

Florian Graf studies the relationship between man and architecture and psychological and emotional influence that architecture has on us.

Hannaleena Heiska

Hannaleena Heiska is striving to achieve brushwork that looks effortless and easy, which in turn gives the feeling of fleeting moment to the spectator. In her latest works, Hannaleena is using charcoal as the main material.

Hector Zamora works mostly with objects and spaces of public use and gives new definitions to their usual physical characteristics.

Tanya Akhmetgaliyeva

Tanya Akhmetgaliyeva works with textile in an original technique, particularly by combining different media (graphics, video, installation). Her central theme is variety of everydayness.

Zhenya Machneva

Zhenya Machneva documents industrial images in her works by exploring the meeting points of traditional art and technological progress.

Artist and animator Nina Bisyarina works in classic drawing style. As part of the Artist-in- Residence program of the Ural Biennial, Nina Bisyarina works in an unusual genre for her, complementing an animated film with a total installation built on her childhood memories (as is all her work).

The Demolition Project

The Demolition Project is a collaboration between Russian artist Alisa Oleva and English writer/performer Debbie Kent, using the city as both material and studio.

Evgeny Gavrilov

Evgeny Gavrilov, one of the founders of the music community and the label Ekhotourist, created in Novosibirsk in 2010.

From 1990 to 2015 has organized and curated more than 200 exhibitions of fine art in museums and galleries in Moscow, Saint Petersburg, Leningrad region, Poland, Germany.

He graduated from Obninsk Polytechnic School and from Moscow State University of Design and Technology. Lives and works in Kaluga.

He graduated from Samara Art College and studied at Samara Pedagogical University. Participated in numerous video art festivals in Russia, Ukraine, and Italy.

Graduated from the Department of Monumental Painting of the Saint Petersburg Stieglitz State Academy of Art and Design. A graduate of the Young Artist School of the Pro-Arte fund for culture and art, 2013. Since 2012 she is a member of Parasite group.

In 2010, she graduated from Samara State University of Architecture and Civil Engineering with a degree in environmental design. Participant of numerous group exhibitions.

Lera Lerner — artist. Graduated from the School of the Young Artist of the Pro Arte Foundation for Culture and Arts.
