Doug Ashford (b. 1958, Rabat, Morocco) — teacher, artist and writer. He is Associate
Professor at The Cooper Union (New York). Lives and works in New York, US. Ashford’s
early art practice (1982-1996) was as a member of the collective Group Material, which
produced over forty installations and public projects. Group’s projects challenged the art
exhibition form and proposed that audiences could be invited to imagine democratic
forms, re-assign art’s relationship to history and invent new purposes for the museum.
