Hannaleena Heiska. Born in 1973, lives and works in Finland. Graduated from Finnish Academy of Fine Arts. Her works have been shown at various artistic venues in Finland as well as in private galleries and
museums in Japan, Lithuania, Norway, and other countries. She is represented by Helsinki
Contemporary, one of the major galleries in Finland. Hannaleena Heiska is striving to achieve brushwork that looks effortless and easy, which in turn
gives the feeling of fleeting moment to the spectator. In her latest works, Hannaleena is using
charcoal as the main material and refers to its basic component, carbon, which is the key element of
organic creatures, life cycle, and life itself..
As part of the Artist-in- Residence program of the Ural Biennial, Hannaleena Heiska creates object-
graphical installation with use of objects found on the premises of the former Instrument-Making
Plant and objects provided by Sysert Porcelain Factory, as well as charcoal as the material.
